Simply classic! This very scarce 1967-68 Pittsburgh Penguins inaugural season game-worn jersey features drop-shadow lettering that cascades the city's name down the front in two-tone blue double twill with a lighter-colored thread that offers a third tone of blue. Number 16 sewn on the back and both sleeves was worn in 1967-68 by Tom McCarthy and/or Wayne Hicks. McCarthy was listed in the lineup of the Penguins' first home game program from October 11, 1967, though he did not play in that game or any other Pittsburgh regular season game that season, which he spent with the Baltimore Clippers. McCarthy may have worn it during the pre-season, or it could have been worn by Hicks, who played 15 games for the Penguins during their inaugural season after he was acquired in a trade with Philadelphia. This highly sought-after style was what the Pens wore into battle during their first year over that expansion season when the NHL doubled in size from six teams to a dozen. Creamy-white durene tie-neck style uniform tagged in the hem by Gerry Cosby with a nearby size 48 tag and remnants of a year tag with "6…" still visible. The underarms have gussets with a thicker fabric. There are unrepaired holes on the front tail and the right sleeve that do not diminish the display of this historic first-year Penguins gamer, which has light reddish-brown stains on the left upper back and shoulder, and smaller stains on the front and under the "6" on the back.
