Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Butch Goring took his hockey smarts behind the bench when his playing days had come to an end, and it was with the Utah Grizzlies of 1995-96 that saw him lead his IHL squad to the Turner Cup championship, just a year after he had done the same with the Grizzlies who were then planted in Denver. We have Goring's "The Hockey News Minor Pro Coach of the Year" plaque from the big '95-'96 season, along with his IHL "Coach of the Year" award and Tommy Salo and Mark McArthur's "Outstanding Goaltenders" award from the same season. Goring would also be behind the bench for 4 seasons in Germany, and included is an early-2000s limited-edition watch from that time. The Hockey News plaque awarded to Goring measures 9” x 12” and features a photo of Goring on metal and set on a wood base. A corner of the covering has chipped off, and there are a scattering of scratches on the front. The 2 IHL awards stand just over 9” high and are 10 1/4” wide, with the IHL logo adorning the clear glass and the plaques attached to the black plastic stand. These 2 awards remain in excellent condition. Goring’s DEL watch has a blue band, slightly cracked, with the face of the watch showing the “DEL Bundesliga” logo.
