Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

If you’re not an authority on the Original Six already, you soon will be when you dive into the more than 350 editions of “The Hockey News” from the ‘50s and ‘60s, chock full of the Rocket, Hull, Howe, Sawchuk, and everyone else who laced them up or coached and managed, not just in the NHL but in all the pro leagues that were, and always have been, mentioned in the legendary hockey bible. The Hockey News has always been there for fans, heralding the newest scoring champ, the fellow closing in on 50 goals, the Cup winners, the spotlight on rookies and veterans, all-star votes, suspensions, the mag’s choice of “Player of the Week”, giving us all the lowdown on our heroes and villains. Breaking it down, we have 31 issues from the 1950s, 38 from the ‘50s with cut pages inside, and 320 issues from the 1960s. Some issues have had the crosswords worked on, a portion of them have mailing labels, there are some duplicates, and some have the odd word inked on the cover, but all in all, the ones from the 1960s are in wonderful condition while the ‘50s editions just a little less. Dive into these 350-plus mags and see how Frank Selke predicted in 1962 that expansion would take place by 1968; read how Bobby Hull was doing in the scoring race; check out how a travelling Russian squad wowed Canadians in 1964 and even before, with some NHL officials quoted as saying that very soon the Russians will be a force to be reckoned with. So much, packed into more than 350 issues. Now that’s hockey!
