Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
It's part of hockey lore, how on Nov. 1, 1959, Montreal's Jacques Plante was hit in the face by an Andy Bathgate backhand, the goalie went down in a pool of blood and was taken off the ice, later to return wearing a mask he had toyed with only in practice. Offered is one of the most sought after vintage goalie mask styles in the hobby, this caramel-colored bar mask that was produced in the 1960s by Jacques Plante Fibrosport company and was the company's first model ever made. This pretzel mask, in its 10" x 13" glass case on a black base, shows a crack at the top, a decent amount of scratching on the nose area, and general wear throughout, with its vintage straps still attached. Please note that the plaque on the case says "Jacques Plante's First Game Worn Mask" but this came from his company and isn't the iconic original.
