Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
A unique and extremely scarce issue put out by O’Keefe’s Beverages to pay tribute to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1931-32 Stanley Cup championship was a set of 20 coasters, or “blotters” as they were referred to in an original ad, measuring 6” by 6” from their furthest points and difficult to find in any condition. PSA Population Report figures confirm the scarcity, with just 28 total coasters sent to PSA over the years, with our consignor’s tempting ensemble featuring 13 “highest-graded-at-PSA” examples. The coasters feature the artwork of prominent Canadian cartoon artist Lou Skuce, with their numbers matching the players’ uniform numbers. ......A member of Toronto’s famous “Kid Line” and already considered one of the NHL’s “heavy weights” after three NHL seasons, Charlie Conacher had led the NHL in goals in 1931-32 and also led all playoff goal-scorers during the Maple Leafs’ Stanley Cup run in the spring of ’32. The one and only Conacher coaster ever to be sent to PSA, this Pop-1 grades Good 2 and will contribute handsomely to a Hall of Fame-caliber collection.
