After a disappointing first round loss to Los Angeles the previous season, the Edmonton Oilers responded more than admirably in the 1989-90 playoffs, capturing another Campbell Conference championship before recapturing the Stanley Cup with a 4-1 series win in the Cup finals against Boston. The team had to erase a 3-1 deficit in its opening round series against Winnipeg, before sweeping Gretzky and the Kings and beating the Black Hawks in six, captain Mark Messier accepting the Clarence Campbell Bowl championship trophy on Chicago ice following an 8-4 Edmonton victory. Personal miniature Campbell Bowl here was presented to Oilers' public relations director Bill Tuele and his name, the team's name and the year engraved on one side of the handled cup with removable lid, while the name of the trophy and its year of inception (1968) are engraved on the other. On a 3-inch high, six-sided wooden base, the silver plated memento rises to 10 1/2". The award was re-silvered on the handles and upper part of the cup which originally had tarnish, cracking and silver loss on those areas, overall trophy remains in excellent condition. From another championship season, the first of the post-Gretzky era, the award will come with an LOA signed by Bill Tuele.
