Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Wayne Gretzky won his second Conn Smythe Trophy and last Stanley Cup in the spring of 1988 when the Edmonton Oilers claimed their fourth Cup in five seasons. This miniature Stanley Cup trophy is the one that was presented to Juergen Merz, the Oilers' massage therapist, whose name is engraved on the barrel of this 13" tall award along with "Edmonton Oilers 1987-88" and the names of owner Peter Pocklington, Hall of Fame coach Glen Sather and the rest of the Oilers' executives and staff. Team captain Gretzky and fellow HOFers Anderson, Fuhr, Kurri and Messier are among the players' names below arranged in three columns, featuring the amazing supporting cast of Acton, Beukeboom, Courtnall, Gregg, Hannan, Huddy, Krushelnyski, Lacombe, Lowe, MacTavish, McClelland, McSorley, Muni, Ranford, Simpson, Smith and Tikkanen. Original Stanley Cup trophy has some scratches to the silver-plate finish and a tiny dent on the right side of the barrel, otherwise a great display piece from the height of the Oilers dynasty.
