A year after joining Maurice Richard and Bernie Geoffrion as the third member of the Canadiens' 50-goal club, Guy Lafleur became the Habs' first two-time 50-goal scorer late in the 1975-76 campaign. Vintage Canadiens commemorative plaque displays Guy's name and the details of the March 27, 1976 milestone as he victimized Kansas City's Denis Herron for his 50th for a second year in a row! French "50th Goal of the Season"plaques are affixed to the face of the proper-era Habs game puck mounted at the bottom. Guy placed a dedicated blue ballpoint signature on the back of the plaque when he gifted it back in the day, as per the copy of the letter of provenance that accompanies this historic 10" x 15" plaque. “Presented to Guy Lafleur by the Club de hockey Canadien to commemorate his accomplishment on Saturday, March 27, 1976 at the Montreal Forum against the Kansas City Scouts” reads the French language engraving on the blue metal plaque with a red, white and blue enamel raised CH logo at the top, along with “His,” followed by “50th” and “Goal of the Season” on the two plaques affixed to the top and bottom of the face of the Canadiens game puck. “Goalie Denis Herron, at 10:12, 1st period” is engraved to the left of the puck and “Assisted by Guy Lapointe and Doug Jarvis” to the right.
The plaque is nicely preserved overall with a few small marks on the bottom right corner of the blue metal plaque. The rubberized CH crest on the front of the puck exhibits some crazing.
“Pour Philippe, Bonne chance d’un ami, Guy Lafleur” reads Flower’s dedicated blue ballpoint signature on the back of the plaque. Letter of provenance states that Guy gifted the plaque in 1976 to Philippe Simard. The plaque was subsequently gifted by Mrs. Simard five years later to the author of the letter of provenance, who owned it for the next 30 years.
Guy scored at least 50 goals in six straight seasons from 1974-75 to 1979-80. He scored his 50th against Herron three times, including against Pittsburgh on March 31, 1979. Lafleur was unable to get a fourth 50th goal against Herron the following season because the goaltender was then a teammate with the Habs. Stephane Richer is the only other member of the Canadiens with two 50-goal seasons.
