Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Wayne Gretzky stepped into the limelight in Los Angeles and brought the game of hockey to a new audience across the United States following his trade to the Kings in 1988. This game-used Titan TPM 2020 from the 1988-89 season is stamped "W. Gretzky" with the factory pattern code "2-002" and a smudged date code which appears to read "1 MAR 1989" on the shaft. Black foam Jack the Gripper up at the handle with a blade wrapped in well-aged, baby-powdered "bulldog" tape. Gretzky added a bold black signature up where the bare wood meets the white paint, only increasing the value on this example. A perfect game-used Wayne Gretzky stick from his first season with the Kings. Shows heavier use with one small chip out of the shaft midway up and another dent nearby that has caused a good splinter.
