Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

Superb AHL memento recalls how the Sherbrooke Canadiens unexpectedly captured the Calder Cup in the spring of 1985. Sherbrooke was bolstered for the playoffs by Patrick Roy and Stephane Richer who joined the team after their junior careers ended, with Roy posting a 10-3 record, (a year prior to backstopping Montreal to the Stanley Cup!), as Sherbrooke ultimately beat Baltimore in a six-game final. Centerman Murray Eaves had a team-high 18 playoff points and received this striking keepsake. "Les Canadiens de Sherbrooke" encircle a large zircon and blue stone on the front, while an image of the Calder Cup is on one shank and a Jets logo, along with "Eaves", appear on the other. Winnipeg and Montreal both supplied players to Sherbrooke at the time. Size 10 ring has "10K" on the interior of the band and has had the black paint on the sides redone. Showing moderate wear with light scratches, it's from a special Canadiens' championship season.
