Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

One of Europe's all-time greats, Vaclav Nedomansky's outstanding international career included trips to nine IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships, highlighted by the 1972 tournament held right in Prague, Czechoslovakia where the host country finally topped the dominant Soviet Union and claimed the world title for the first time since 1949. Nedomansky's participation medal from that competition is the highlight here, housed in its original red vinyl folder-like affair which also includes a neat certificate in Nedomansky's name. Square-ish medal is 2" by 2" and in like-new condition, with "Praha 1972" among the lettering on the back. Also offered is a silvery participation medal from the 1966 worlds in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is 2-3/4" in diameter and exhibits roughness/scratches affecting the edge of the side with a hockey stick and puck. The maker's "Bertoni" name appears on both the medal and lining of the wooden presentation box. Completing the trio is a medal from the 1969 Izvestia Tournament in Moscow; a little over 2" in diameter with minor tarnish. Vaclav Nedomansky will sign an LOA to be included with these intriguing international hockey mementos.
