Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Hall of Fame goalie Billy Smith's black marker signature is featured among the 21 autographs on this Wayne Schultz game used stick signed by members of the 1971 Calder Cup champion Springfield Kings. Despite posting a losing record during the 1970-71 AHL regular season, the Springfield Kings went on a tear in the playoffs, winning 11 of 12 in the spring of 1971 to claim the Calder Cup. "Springfield Kings 1970-71 Calder Cup Champs", is written in black marker across the bare blade of Schultz's Sher-Wood gamer. Smith, who would go on to win four straight Stanley Cups in the early-1980s with the New York Islanders, has signed along the shaft as well as Springfield coach Johnny Wilson and Kings teammates Murphy, Boland, Dineen, Mikkelson, Jenner, Potvin, McNabb, Hoekstra, Rousseau, Schultz, Byrnes, Stanfield, Gibbons, Healey, McMahon, LaChance, Volmar, McDonough and Armstrong.
