This sensational team photo of the 1936-37 Detroit Red Wings celebrates the first American team to defend a Stanley Cup title. The Red Wings were pushed to the limit by the Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs. Hec Kilrea scored in the third overtime of the fifth and deciding game of the matchup between the Canadian and American Division champions that settled top league honors. The Red Wings also needed five games to down the Rangers in the Cup final. The original studio-mounted 18" x 38" print shows Franks, Mackie, Hec Kilrea, Lewis, Bruneteau, Young, Adams, Norris, Aurie, Howe, Wally Kilrea and Robertson seated from left to right in the front row. Standing behind them are Walker, Kelly, Sherf, McDonald, Sorrell, Gallagher, Pettinger, Goodfellow, Roulston, Barry, Bowman, Mattson and Smith in this exceptional image taken by team photographer Albert E. Backlund. "Detroit Red Wings, 1936-1937, National Hockey League Champions, Stanley Cup Winners" is printed on the bottom part of the off-white matte surrounding the team photo, which is mounted in a black wood frame that measures approximately 28" x 47". What an amazing addition this would make to a Red Wings/Stanley Cup shrine!
