Superb color image here captures New York Rangers goaltender Charlie "Chuck" Rayner, one of only five netminders to ever win the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player. Rayner won the award in 1949-50 when he backstopped the Blueshirts to a playoff spot, before bringing them to within one win of the Stanley Cup, Detroit squeaking out an overtime win in game seven of the Cup finals. Rayner applied a fine blue sharpie autograph in the lower left corner here, adding "HOF 1973 #1". Photo itself measures 16" by 20" and has been professionally matted and framed. One of hockey's lovable characters during and after his playing days, Rayner died at age 82 in October of 2002.
