Logging over 1,800 career penalty minutes, Jim Korn was drafted by both NHL and WHA clubs in 1977, and made his NHL debut for the Detroit Red Wings in 1979-80. Three seasons would be spent in Motor City, followed by stints with Toronto, Buffalo, New Jersey and Calgary. From his first of four seasons in Ontario, we have a photo-matched Toronto Maple Leafs jersey worn by the Minnesota native in 1981-82. A Maska label is affixed to the collar along with a laundering tag with “52” sizing, with an embroidered Maska label over the reverse hem. Styled with the famous maple leaf team crest with “Toronto Maple Leaf” embroidered-on, the knit V-neck has been accented with “20” over the sleeves and verso in single twill, with “Korn” sewn to the nameplate in matching material (there is evidence of a former similar-sized nameplate, with the jersey possibly first worn by Don Luce, as Luce played his last game for the Leafs on February 18, 1982, with Korn acquired in a trade on March 8, 1982). The jersey also sports a loop-style fight strap.
Moderate game-use is exhibited on the vintage sweater, with a few minor stains over the front, with faint board burns over each sleeve. There is also pilling to the inner sleeves, with three team repairs near the left elbow along with additional repairs to the reverse “0” and above the nameplate. Two included undated numeric images clearly show the long mark on the right elbow, while Getty Image #501272090 (April 3, 1982) appears to be showing the mark on the right elbow, but the resolution of the image is not high enough to be called a definitive photo-match.
