Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
A witness to the historical signing of Jean Beliveau by the Montreal Canadiens in 1953, contemporaneously called the largest such contract in NHL history, we have the very ring big Jean wore when he put pen to paper, signing his name and creating a relationship with les Canadiens that would foster an illustrious Hall of Fame career culminating in 17 Stanley Cup championships! Size 9 with an approx weight of 11 grams, Beliveau’s initials in stylized script have been placed over the top section, with graduating Art Deco mounts over each shank. The inner band is stamped "Siffari 10K" and "Birks", with the important keepsake showing heavy wear from use, with scratches, nicks and surface wear throughout, with no obtrusive damage. An LOA from the Beliveau family will accompany this well loved heirloom.
Historic as the largest such NHL contract up until that point, the Oct 3, 1953 agreement called for $105,000 over five years, which equates to just over one million dollars in 2019 currency.
