Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
The WHA’s most successful club, the Winnipeg Jets were three-time Avco Cup champions, winning the league’s prestigious title in 1976 along with back-to-back victories in 1977 and 1978. Celebrating the Jets first championship, we have a miniature replica of the Avco World Trophy that was presented to Ivan Berkowitz, a committee director in management with the club. At just under 13” and featuring a slightly tiered silver base with mounted trophy cup and inserted detailed globe, engraved plaques grace the front including the lower example that lists Berkowitz along with the “Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club”. The reverse contains an additional pair of plaques, with the full team listed, with the lower plaque stating “Presented to the Winnipeg Jets World Champions 1975-76”. This is a wonderful matching accompaniment piece to Ivan Berkowitz’s 1975-76 Avco Cup Championship ring also offered in this auction.
The vintage trophy remains in pleasing condition, with some minor surface wear including scratches and discolouration to the affixed plaques, with additional light wear to the silver components. The top bowl also has a slight bend, but this does little to undermine the visual aesthetics of the important keepsake.
