Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

A member of the Montreal Canadiens “Big Three” defence core, Guy Lapointe spent the majority of his Hall of Fame career in “la Sainte-Flanelle”, patrolling the Habs blueline for parts of 14 NHL seasons. The Canadiens record holder for goals in a season by a defenceman, Pointu would make four All-Star Game appearances and would hoist Lord Stanley’s hardware half a dozen times throughout his NHL tenure. This Canadiens jersey was worn by the Montreal native in his final season in Quebec, in 1981-82, and it’s been photo-matched.
A Maska Ultrafil label graces the collar along with a second embroidered Maska logo over the reverse hem, with the vintage V-neck jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 48. Featuring the iconic CH team crest fully administered in layered red, white and blue tackle twill, Lapointe’s retired “5” appears over the sleeves and verso in matching material. The nameplate has been removed, with a reproduction nameplate to accompany (not affixed to jersey). There is an intact garter-style fight strap, and it’s been re-positioned lower. Traded to the St Louis Blues on March 9, 1982, Lapointe’s final contest with the Habs was a road game vs the Rangers, on Feb 21, with this final season jersey likely the last ever worn by Guy with Montreal. A MeiGray LOA and COR will accompany along with an additional LOA.
Exhibiting great game-use, there are a few dark marks, scrapes and very small holes over the front band, with faint burns and scuffs over each sleeve. There is also some minor staining over the left sleeve’s number and along the bottom of the reverse number, with heavy pilling to each interior sleeve. Team repairs are also abundant on the desirable sweater, with 3 over the front, 11 on the reverse, 3 on the left sleeve and 5 on the right. Getty Image #1213564011 (December 12, 1981, road game vs Toronto) has been matched to the long loose blue thread on the top of the number "5" on the right sleeve, to the pair of red loose threads on the upper middle edge of the team crest, and to the small loose white thread on the right edge of the "H" in the team crest. Lastly, Getty Image #1213564888 (also from Dec 12) has been matched to the long loose blue thread on the top of the number "5" on the right sleeve.
