Currently ranked 3rd all-time among NHL goaltenders for career wins, Ed Belfour went undrafted amazingly, with time spent in both the MJHL and IHL along with a season for UND before making his first NHL appearance with Chicago, in 1988-89. We have a Black Hawks jersey that was worn by the HOF superstar during training camp and/or preseason in 1987-88 and/or 1988-89. A sewn-down Maska Ultrafil label graces the collar with an "86-01" born-on date tag beneath, with the garment measuring-out to roughly a size 50. Styled with a gorgeous Indian head team crest with chain-stitched detailing, the white V-neck has been accented with black tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers with red trim, with matching tomahawk crests over each shoulder. There are also embroidered crests from both CCM and Gunzo’s over the reverse hem. Evidence of two former nameplates are visible, one shorter one longer, with the clasp-style fight strap intact.
Just a few marks are present on the desirable garment along with some fabric pulls, with a couple small stains visible, including over the reverse near the left seam. The #1 jersey was worn previously in the 1985-86 reg. season by Warren Skorodenski, so possibly, the longer of the two former nameplates indicates that the jersey was most likely originally made for him for the following season, with Belfour coming to the team in 1988-89, signed by the Hawks in the summer of 1987 and in the system with the IHL Saginaw Hawks, seeing action in 61 games in 1987-88. Belfour is listed as wearing number 1 in the 1987-88 and 1988-89 Chicago Black Hawks media guides, only donning the number until it was retired in Glenn Hall’s honour, on Nov 20th 1988.
