Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
His second time representing his nation, Ed Belfour was a gold medal-winning member of Team Canada at the 1991 Canada Cup, and served as back-up at the 2002 Winter Olympics, again winning gold while reinforcing a dominant goaltending trio, along with Curtis Joseph and Martin Brodeur. This mask was one of two produced for use at the 2002 Winter Olympics, with the other identical example worn by Belfour during the single Olympic contest he spent on the bench as back-up, with that mask also worn with the team during practices. That second mask was sold by Classic Auctions in 2016. Produced by Warwick and painted by artist Ray Bishop with his signature appearing behind the right ear, Ed’s wonderfully executed trademark eagles grace each side, with his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design placed over the chin section, with a Canadian flag motif utilized as background. The back plate has additional custom graphics with the Olympic rings and “2002”, with “Team Canada” below. The interior padding is present and accounted for including added velcro for the cloth forehead accessory, with no cage affixed. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this gorgeous and patriotic mask.
A Warwick sticker has been placed behind the left ear, with this covering some handwritten text, with a second Warwick sticker behind the chin section, with “Shell #3 2/1/02” written beneath. The mask remains in absolutely stunning condition, ready to serve as the ultimate showpiece. A carry/storage bag is also included.
