With Habs legends Ken Dryden and Yvan Cournoyer serving as honourary team captains, the 1998 NHL All-Star Game featured Team North America taking on Team World, with the former slipping past the latter, 8-7. This mask custom-made from Hall of Fame superstar Ed Belfour has been team-signed by Team North America. Produced by Warwick for Beflour’s use but never painted and not seeing any game action, “Warwick” is embroidered on top of the joining section of the strapping over the back plate, with handwritten text behind each ear section. There is also a Warwick label behind the chin, with the mask's dimensions listed along with the date of Jan 12, 1998. All 23 members of Team North America have signed, with the signatures appearing in both thin and thick black ink, including Belfour, along with fellow HOF members Gretzky, Messier, Roy, Brodeur, Leetch, Modano, Sakic, Bourque, Lindros and others. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
The mask remains in gorgeous condition, with the majority of the signatures flawless, with a few quite light, including the Shanahan. The additional signers include Stevens, Sydor, Chelios, Recchi, LeClair, Amonte, Shanahan, Tkachuk, MacInnis, Corson, Niedermayer, Weight and Theo Fleury. We should also note that there are a total of 26 signatures present on the mask, with 23 players signing including a trio that have signed twice, with Leetch, Recchi and Weight. A carry/storage bag is also included.
