An NHL star for two decades, Doug Gilmour was first a Memorial Cup champion in 1981, later named the most outstanding player in the OHL the following season after scoring 177 points, one of the highest totals in league history. We have a great group of items celebrating Gilmour’s pre-NHL days, with an offensive player award from 1982-83, a trio of Junior and youth hockey programs and a pair of signed cereal boxes from the 1990s. At 7” x 9”, the award was presented to Gilmour by the Cornwall Royals fan club in 1982-83, with a wooden plaque with mounted hockey motif and affixed metal plate listing the particulars. The programs include examples for the Mississauga Paperweight Tournament in 1972 (7” x 10” with creasing, spine wear and heavy toning - Gilmour is listed in the line-up of the Kingston Young Nationals), the Kitchener Blue Line Tournament in 1974 (6” x 9” with toning and a pair of dog-eared pages – Gilmour is listed in the line-up of the Kingston Minor Pee Wee team) and the 1981 Memorial Cup tournament luncheon in 1981 (6” x 8 ½” with just handling wear, Gilmour – along with Dale Hawerchuk – is listed with the Cornwall Royals over the back cover. The cereal boxes are both complete and unfolded, with a Honeycomb example from 1995 signed by Doug in blue sharpie, along with a Shreddies box from 1997, also signed in blue sharpie. The boxes show light wear, with no issues for either signature.
