Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

Finishing second in the Central Division at the conclusion of the 1997-98 NHL regular season, the Detroit Red Wings would face Phoenix, St Louis and Dallas, with each hard fought series going six games. The boys from Motor City would then crush the Capitals four-straight to claim their second-consecutive Stanley Cup championship – and ninth in franchise history. We have a gorgeous Stanley Cup trophy, with this unawarded example, produced by Boffey, similar to the examples awarded to each member of the Red Wings by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Standing just over a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with dark brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved beneath Detroit’s executives, with “Detroit Red Wings” and “1997-98” engraved above. In absolutely stunning condition with just very light surface wear in spots including over the first couple letters of “Detroit”, and to areas on the edge just above, there is also a bit of visible surface loss along the very bottom edge, where the trophy is mounted to the wooden base.
