Hall of Fame centre Denis Savard wore this incredible photo-matched Montreal Juniors gamer when he tore up Quebec junior hockey during the late 1970s. This fantastic piece of hockey history was obtained directly from someone who was very close to Savard at that time in his life, when he was on the cusp of making the leap to the NHL and the superstardom that awaited him with the Chicago Black Hawks. Dazzling Denis is pictured wearing this red Juniors jersey, which has been positively matched to a big black mark on the left breast and shoulder. The mark is the tip of the iceberg on this beauty's fantastic game wear, which features numerous (maybe we should say countless!!!) team repairs all over. A 2-inch-long vertical fix on the left side is one of at least two dozen (24!) on the front of the jersey alone. Included are 15 vintage albums filled with clippings from Savard's junior career and his Black Hawks debut. Please see our website description for more information about this lot. A letter of authenticity accompanies this historic Denis Savard junior hockey game-worn jersey. Included for the photo match are vintage 8” x 5” photo and 6” x 3 1/2" postcard of different poses of Denis wearing this remarkable jersey.
Among 10 team repairs on the back is a big sewing fix below the number “23”, with the garter-style fight strap sewn onto the right;
We count nine team repairs on the right sleeve, and seven more on the left;
A board burn sits above the outside edge of the “2” and a couple of black marks are on the upper right back above the “3”;
The Maska Superfill tag in the neck hangs loose where it has torn away from its stitching on the right side;
No size is indicated on the laundry instruction flag tag in the neck, though the jersey measures out to a 48;
Jersey exhibits pilling inside the sleeves;
The 15 vintage albums are filled with clippings from Denis’ junior days and the outset of his NHL career with the Black Hawks, as well as a variety of photos, team schedules, and ticket stubs. Featured among 22 loose album pages are five vintage Montreal Canadiens autographs on two cuts, including HOFers Larry Robinson and Guy Lapointe.
Highlights in the albums include:
A vintage early-1970s 10x8 of a young Denis with his Verdun Black Hawks captain’s jersey posed in front of Guy Lafleur, seated on the boards in full Montreal Canadiens uniform and flanked by two of Savard’s teammates,
A creased and cracked vintage 10x8 of a young Denis posed on the ice in a Verdun Black Hawks uniform,
