Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
The sport’s preeminent inaugural superstar, Fred “Cyclone” Taylor starred for a number of fabled hockey clubs during the early-1900s almost as iconic as the man himself, including the Portage Lakes Hockey Club, Ottawa Senators, Renfrew Creamery Kings and Vancouver Millionaires. Legendary Stories regarding the superstar abound, including once scoring a goal while skating backwards. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a lengthy two-page handwritten letter signed by the 1947 HOF inductee. At 8” x 10”, each thin tissue-like sheet is loaded with interesting content, as Taylor mentions the whereabouts of other past stars. The dark but slightly faded signature displays wonderfully, with “OBE” added (Officer of the Order of the British Empire). Reaching the ripe old age of 94, the Cyclone would leave us in 1979.
Regarding condition, the ink throughout has faded somewhat, with just very light handling wear to the delicate sheets themselves, including a few faint and minor stains. There is also a pair of punched holes over the top section of each sheet for binder insertion.
