Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A three-time winner of the Lady Byng Trophy for his gentlemanly conduct on the ice, Bobby Bauer only skated for the Boston Bruins throughout his career, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a handwritten and signed letter from the 1996 HOF inductee. At approx 8 ¼” x 10 ¾” and dated Jan 22, 1942, the single-page correspondence drafted on Detroit-Leland hotel stationary has Bauer mentioning both sending a photo and his recent calling-up by the military, with the text and signature scripted in black ink. Bauer would pass away early in 1964 at just 49 years of age.
The signature displays beautifully, with a bit of toning and edge wear to the letter as well as a pair of horizontal fold lines. There is also a pencil notation on the reverse from Hamlyn.
