Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Losing only 15 games throughout the regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs finished 1st overall at the conclusion of the 1947-48 campaign, with Syl Apps leading the club in goals, assists and points. The Blue and White would then slip past the Bruins before crushing the Red Wings four-straight, for their seventh Stanley Cup championship. The first of its kind we here at Classic Auctions have ever encountered, we have an elegant sterling silver tray/platter that was presented by the Leafs to owner Conn Smythe, celebrating the club’s 1948 Stanley Cup championship. At approx. 10” x 24” (including the handles) and constructed entirely from precious sterling silver, elegant scroll and chase work is featured, with engraved text at the center that reads, “Mr Conn Smythe from Toronto Maple Leafs – World Champions – 1947-48”. This text is encompassed by engraved facsimile signatures of team members including HOFers Turk Broda, Hap Day, Harry Watson, Syl Apps, Ted Kennedy and Max Bentley. "Birks" and "sterling 51/9" are stamped over the reverse, along with four different hallmarks.
Expected tarnishing is present, taking place over the last 70 years, with just the odd scratch the only other concern, with the one-of-a-kind presentation piece displaying brilliantly.
