Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Remembered for his leadership of Canada during the First World War, Sir Robert Laird Borden entered office as the 8th Prime Minister of Canada in 1911, serving until 1920. The Nova Scotia native was the last Canadian prime minister to be knighted. We have a signed portrait photo of the barrister and Conservative, with this specimen dedicated to “Senator and Mrs Taylor”, with Taylor likely being George Taylor, House of Commons member and Borden-appointed Senator. At 7 ½” x 11”, the antique photo pictures Borden in full period regalia, with the photo affixed to a 11 ¾” x 15 ¼” beige mount, with the photographer Lafayette listed along the bottom right. The fountain pen inscription is directly beneath the photo, and it reads in full, “To Senator and Mrs Taylor, 10 September, 1913”, with Borden adding his attractive signature beneath.
With no issues for the vintage scripting, the photo survives in gorgeous condition with just some handling and corner wear to the mount. Borden would pass away in 1937, just shortly before his 83rd birthday.
