Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Led in scoring by tournament leader Wayne Gretzky, the 1981 Canada Cup featured six adept hockey nations, with the canucks meeting the powerful Soviets in the final. We have a stick from the tournament that was issued to Bobby Smith, and it’s been team-signed by the Canada squad at the pre-tournament training camp. A CCM Duralite model, a “Bobby Smith” decal has been added to the topside of the shaft, with the front side shaved to accommodate a pleasing surface for signatures. Approx. 33 have signed in ballpoint, including HOFers Smith, Robinson, Gillies, Lafleur, Shutt, Sittler, Perreault, Dionne, Trottier, Bossy, Gainey and Wayne Gretzky, along with Liut, Edwards, Hartsburg, Reinhart, Gare, Linesman, Lessard, Ramage, Taylor, Payne and others. The signatures display well with a few somewhat faded, with the stick itself surviving in excellent condition with an intact striping accent. Hailing from the personal collection of Ron “Prof” Caron, an LOA from the Caron family will accompany.
