Described by Boston Bruins scout Wren Blair as a combination of iconic defenders Eddie Shore and Doug Harvey, Bobby Orr would transition from Beantown to The Windy City after signing a five-year guaranteed contract with the Black Hawks in the summer of 1976. This pattern model stick originates from Orr’s time with Chicago (1976-79) and would have been used by the manufacturer as a template to produce additional models. A Northland Custom Pro stick with “Orr” stamped to the upper shaft along with the pattern number of “4722”, stamps from team supplier “Gunzo’s” also grace each side, with a production code visible on the underside. “6030” is also handwritten in marker on the blade and two sides of the shaft, with additional handwritten text of “Follow this model exactly make sure blades are stiff like this model” added in a vertical row along the top side of the shaft.
With the striping accent intact, the stick shows just light age and storage wear, with just a bit of fading to the “Orr” stamp. Bobby skated in 20 regular-season games in 1976-77 for the Black Hawks, and just 6 in 1978-79 before retiring.
