Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
On March 17, 1973, Wisconsin defeated Denver in a 4-2 tilt to capture the 1972-73 NCAA Ice Hockey Championship. The tournament, held between March 15th and 16th that year, featured all of the Division I playoff games held at Boston Garden in Boston. Following the series, the results of the runner-up Denver squad were vacated due to a discovery of recruitment irregularities by the college. Presented is a formidable and important trophy plaque, awarded to Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bob Johnson to commemorate the school's Championship season and NCAA title. The 13" x 19" wooden slab displays a scrolled brass plate engraved with the signatures of the entire team above the mounted game puck from the 1973 Championship game. Obtained in an estate sale of personal items that had been saved by Bob Johnson and will come with a letter of provenance.
In excellent condition, showing slight wear.
