Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Captained by Hall of Fame defenceman Serge Savard during his final season with the club before passing on the “C” to fellow inductee Bob Gainey, the Montreal Canadiens would finish 3rd overall in 1980-81, with a hungry and youthful Edmonton Oilers squad taking out the Habs in the post-season. Gainey would appear in his final All-Star contest this season while earning his fourth-consecutive Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL’s premier defensive forward. At approx 10 ½” x 12” (at the widest points) and rarely offered, this Frank J. Selke Trophy plaque awarded to Gainey sports a silver miniature of the trophy rising from the center, surrounded by an NHL shield crest with mounted pairs of silver hockey sticks and black enameled pucks. The engraved silver plate beneath lists the particulars including “Frank J. Selke Trophy”, “Winner 1980-81” and “Bob Gainey”. Originating from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany this attractive Frank J. Selke Trophy plaque.
Exhibiting light surface wear to the mounted components, there is heavier oxidation to the engraved plate, with some darkening around edges. We should also note that the NHL crest is able to swivel slightly.
