Creating one of the world’s most noteworthy and famous brands on little more than $8,000.00, Hugh Hefner published the first issue of Playboy magazine in 1953, and thanks to the image of a nude Marilyn Monroe on the cover, the fledgling publication sold 50,000 copies of it’s initial issue. A cultural icon, Playboy magazine has featured ground-breaking interviews with notable public figures, artists, novelists and actors, with the all-time best-selling issue of Playboy the November 1972 edition, which sold 7,161,561 copies. We have a first day cover signed by the publishing guru, with this desirable cover also signed by longtime Playboy art director and bunny creator, Art Paul. At just over 3 ½” x 6 ¼”, the John J Audubon envelope from the Great American Series has an image of the ornithologist, with a centrally-placed “Apr 23 1985” postmark. Hefner has signed in black marker and the signature is flawless, with Paul adding his iconic bunny logo with signature along the top portion. Exhibiting light handling wear with “1863” handwritten in pencil over the upper left corner, there is additional pencil text over the reverse that has been erased. A COA will accompany.
