Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
With much of the script based on Nancy Dowd’s brother Ned and his experiences in the world of minor-league hockey in the early-1970s, Slap Shot opened to mixed reviews, with its status climbing to that of cult classic in the intermediate years. We have an original one sheet movie poster from the forever popular film, with this example a much harder style to locate. At 27” x 40”, Paul Newman is pictured in an on-ice tussle, with the film’s credits listed at the base along with the Australian printer, M.A.P.S. Litho Ply Co. One of the greatest sporting films ever produced, the poster’s tag line enticed viewers that “Slap Shot out slaps… out swears… out laughs….”
The poster displays well despite some obvious issues including creasing, along with surface and edge wear, with a few visible marks over the lower left section. There are also 4 total fold lines, with three expected vertical examples along with a horizontal fold line that runs down the center of the poster.
