Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Participating in various league’s for almost a quarter century from 1940-1963, the Edmonton Flyers’ best days were in the 1950s while playing in the WHL, when a number of talented future NHL stars made their mark in Alberta. We have an autograph booklet team-signed by the squad in the mid-1950s, along with a team photo of the 1954-55 Flyers, with a few pertinent newspaper clippings also included. At 4” x 6”, the autograph booklet features multi-coloured pages, typical for the era, with “Dec 1954” handwritten in pencil on the inside cover. 16 individuals have signed, with each reserving their own complete page, with black and white newsprint portrait images of each signer affixed. Included are HOFers Hall, Bucyk, Ullman and Al Arbour.
Other signers include Hrymnak, Coflin, Zeidel, Hannigan, Horvath, Sclisizzi, Zeniuk, Melnyk, Stankiewicz, Malo, Don Poile and coach Bud Poile. All signatures have been scripted in pencil, and they all remain as vivid as the day they were penned. The book itself suffers from some expected handling wear, with creasing and some surface loss along with edge wear. There is also a piece of clear tape affixed to the back cover. The 1954-55 Edmonton Flyers composite team picture is on glossy stock at 10” x 12 ½”, with headshots of the full team including Hall and Arbour, with full on-ice images along all four corners, featuring Johnny Bucyk and Norm Ullman. The picture exhibits a few marks and surface indentations, with creases along the upper and bottom left. One of the included newspaper clippings features team members posed with Glenn Hall as he receives his most valuable player award, while the second clipping features the wedding of Flyers player Bill Zeniuk.
