Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Amazing vintage fiberglass creation worn early in his career by stellar Czechoslovakian netminder Vladimir Dzurilla comes to us straight out of his personal collection. The custom-built protector features a crude design with a mouth cutaway style that would thrill Hannibal Lecter! Thin layers of vintage cloth tape wrap reinforces the moth bars as some have sustained cracking and damage from on-ice action. More tape inside serves to strengthen the design and provide padding for the form-fitted mask. The item shows great use and wear with areas of paint loss to the tan over cream paint and light cracking appears in a number of areas. The original straps remain, fashioned from nylon and joined at a crude leather backplate piece. Although we have not found photos of Vladimir wearing this exact mask, we have been assured by the family that it was worn by Dzurilla and the lot comes complete with their signed letter of provenance.
