This fantastic 1964 Olympic hockey bronze medal was won by Team Czechoslovakia's goaltender Vladimir Dzurilla. Obtained directly from the family of the late, great Slovakian goalie, this Olympic bronze was Czechoslovakia's only medal at the winter games in Austria and comes complete with its original red and white ribbon and "Innsbruck 1964" presentation box. Dzurilla was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1998, three years after his death from a heart attack at the age of 53. He made his Olympic debut in an 11-1 win over Germany. Olympic gold in 1964 went to the Soviets, who were a perfect 7-0. Czechoslovakia finished in a three-way tie with Sweden and Canada, who had identical 5-2 records. The silver medal went to the Swedes on the basis of goal differential with Czechoslovakia claiming the bronze. Vladimir's first of three Olympic medals has been stored for decades in its original cream velvet-lined brown leather box. Please see our website description for more information about this remarkable international hockey treasure, which comes with a letter of authenticity from the Dzurilla family. The Innsbruck 1964 logo featuring the five Olympic rings sits in the centre of one side of the medal surrounded by “IX Olympic Winter Games” in German. “Innsbruck 1964” is spelled out in modern lettering above a stylized rendition of the Alps with “Eishockey” (ice hockey, in German) along the bottom. The gilded Innsbruck 1964 Olympic logo is printed on the top of the medal case’s lid. Approaching 50 years old, this rare Innsbruck bronze medal remains in glorious condition overall, with its ribbon complete and whole.
