Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
An original New York Rangers jacket crest from the 1930s is a prize found in this lot of items from Hall-of-Famer Bun Cook’s personal collection. The faded team jacket patch still maintains the red, white and blue Rangers colors on the familiar crest that features the team's name spelled out diagonally. This vintage Rangers crest measures 6 ½" x 5 ½" and remains intact and in very good condition. An original colorized Fred "Bun" Cook photo in Rangers uniform is featured in a vintage Sweet Caporal cigarettes hockey photo. The Montreal Forum premium photo has a horizontal crease on the upper right edge, above the white border of the picture, which otherwise is in great condition glued to one of six pages included here from Cook’s personal scrapbook. Great reading here with clippings from the 1920s and 1930s about the Cook brothers and their Rangers teammates that include handwritten comments such as, "got a good laugh out of this!" with regards to a headline about a Rangers loss to the rival Americans, and a 1929 handwritten letter to Bun Cook from Bob Crawford. In another of Bun’s handwritten notes beside a clipping of a newspaper photo of him and Montreal’s Howie Morenz the Rangers legend indicates that he lost four teeth on the play. Comes with an LOA.
