Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2025
The classic battle for world hockey supremacy, the 1972 Canada-Russia Series will be forever remembered as the ultimate clash between western and eastern powers. The victorious Canadians retained their dominance over the Soviets and the sport at large, with the result coming down to the wire and decided on Paul Henderson's historic goal with only thirty-four (34) seconds left in the series. Offered here, we present this complete set of player pucks that were released by Heritage Hockey in 1999. Featuring a total of thirty-six (36) pucks, one (1) per individual that played during the series either against the Soviet Union and/or against the Swedish National Team as well as examples for coaches Harry Sinden and John Ferguson, each puck sports a headshot image of the featured player/coach over its front along with their name above, their jersey number on either side and "Team Canada 1972" underneath, the reverse sides all sport a "Team Canada - Team of the Century" logo, which is seen on an additional puck that is included as well. All housed in either their original packaging or plastic cases, all the pucks are in overall good condition while showing light wear from age in some cases, including minor cracking/crazing to the images over the fronts. For the rest of the lot, present are five (5) signed pucks, four (4) of which are souvenir Team Canada examples with 1972 Hockey Canada logos over their front while the other is a "CCCP 72" puck. Signed by the likes of Red Berenson (Canada), Vic Hadfield (Canada), Bill Goldsworthy (Canada), Dale Tallon (Canada) and Vladislav Tretiak (Soviet Union - HOF 92 inscription), all the autographs have been signed with either gold or silver marker ink that displays well while the pucks themselves are also in overall excellent shape.
