Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/5/2013
Very rare hockey treasure is this colourful 1928 statue of George Hainsworth. The HOF goalie had an incredible 22 shutouts in 44 games with the Habs in 1928-29, an NHL record that has not been approached! Statue with artist A. Doucet's name and "copyright 1928" on the back stands 14" tall overall with Hainsworth depicted in the number 12 uniform he wore at the outset of his career. The neck was professionally repaired and the stick is an "antique-looking" replacement and not the original. The original paint has been professionally cleaned-up and a light clear varnish was applied over it. George's name is etched on the front of the 6" x 5" base, which stands 1 1/2" high. Substantial though delicate statue is one of only a few known to exist.
