The first time teams would be divided by nationality, the 1998 NHL All-Star Game took place in Vancouver at General Motors Place, on Jan 18, 1998, with the North American squad pulling out a slim victory over the World Team, 8-7. Finish superstar Teemu Selanne would be selected as the contest’s MVP. This Team World jersey was worn by Latvian star Sandis Ozolinsh in this his first NHL All-Star contest with Colorado, and it’s been signed. With CCM and “56” size tagging affixed to the collar, there’s also CCM, NHL and NHLPA embroidered crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with a partially-embroidered NHL shield crest in black and silver, the garment has been accented with oversized triple-twill numbers, along with a Latvian flag crest over the right breast. The right shoulder features the ’98 All-Star Game patch, while the left has a Colorado Avalanche team crest. Sandis has signed beneath the reverse number in black marker, and the signature displays well. Claude Lemieux's signed LOA will accompany (he traded jerseys with Ozolinsh after the match) along with a second LOA and printed 8” x 10” photo.
An NHL inventory number of “NIL034” has been sewn directly onto the fight strap, and it denotes that this garment is one of 5 issued to Ozolinsh for the contest (official photo shoot, pre-game warm-up, and one for each of the three periods), with this one obviously seeing action, with a large stick mark beneath the team crest and additional marks over the upper reverse and nameplate.
