Exquisite gold and diamond ring offers Oilers and ring enthusiasts another wonderful chance at a superior and captivating piece, along with a chance to reminisce about the Oilers' fourth Stanley Cup championship in five years, acquired in 1988. The Oil had failed to reach the regular season 100-point plateau for the first time in seven years (Edmonton finished with 99) and limited to 64 games, Wayne Gretzky had a sub-par 149-point season, but with their title on the line come playoff time, Wayne and company turned it up to the tune of winning hockey's ultimate prize in just two more games than the minimum. The Great One's 13 points (3G, 10A) in Edmonton's four-game sweep of Boston in the finals set a record and helped the magician win his second Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Wayne totaled 43 post-season points (12G, 31A) as Edmonton eliminated the Jets (4-1), Flames (4-0) and Wings (4-1) to attain the finals.
Four substantial diamonds here are set into a sea of smaller stones and white gold and are surrounded by the words "1988 Stanley Cup Champions" on the face of this striking ring. The blue and orange enameled logo of the Edmonton Oilers is prominently featured on the left shank with "Pocklington" appearing above. The opposing shank proudly lists the team's championship seasons engraved into four raised Cups with the image of the motivational carrot below. The interior of this majestic and stunning keepsake is stamped "Balfour 14K". Size is 10-1/2 and condition is near mint.
Offered in this collection are the Stanley Cup Championship rings originally awarded to Edmonton Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington for his part in five thrilling Stanley Cup victories between 1984 and 1990. These fabulous and original rings were produced for Peter Pocklington by the famed craftsmen at Jostens and Balfour and each ring will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity and provenance signed by Peter Pocklington himself. Additionally, each will come with an authenticating document from Jostens executive Barry Properzi detailing that he has examined each ring and attesting that these are the actual rings that were originally ordered by and produced for Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington. Also accompanying the rings are copies of the original Jostens order forms from the 1980s confirming that Peter Pocklington had ordered Stanley Cup championship rings for himself and for his father Basil Pocklington.
