Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012

The Edmonton Oilers' dynasty-in-the-works was interrupted in 1986 as arch-rival Calgary denied the potent Oilers a third straight playoff title with a seesaw seven-game win in the Smythe division finals, but the Oilers returned to the winner's circle in the spring of 1987 to drink from Lord Stanley's bowl for the third time in four years.
Commemorating their championship run, this tantalizing gold and diamond creation brings forth the story of how, after a regular season that saw Gretzky, Kurri and Messier finish 1-2-4 in the scoring race, the Oilers beat Los Angeles (4-1), Winnipeg (4-0) and Detroit (4-1) to set up a showdown with Philadelphia in the Cup finals. After taking 2-0 and 3-1 series leads, the Oilers saw the Flyers tie up things and force a seventh and deciding game thanks to a pair of one-goal victories. In the first game seven in the Cup finals since 1971 (Montreal-Chicago), Edmonton came through with a 3-1 win, once again sending fans at Northlands Coliseum into hysterics. Jari Kurri's goal with five minutes left in the second period was the Cup-winner and another Stanley Cup celebration soon followed.
The jubilation of that third Stanley Cup championship is represented in this jeweled work of art presented to team owner Peter Pocklington. A trio of large diamonds encircled by smaller stones is surrounded by the words "1987 Stanley Cup Champions" on the face of this stunning ring. The enameled logo of the Edmonton Oilers is prominently featured on the left shank with "Pocklington" and "1987" above and below. The opposite shank proudly lists the team's championship seasons engraved onto three raised Cups, with the motivational image of a carrot. The interior of the band is stamped "14K" and the size 10-1/2 ring is in outstanding condition, exhibiting only very light wear.
Offered in this collection are the Stanley Cup Championship rings originally awarded to Edmonton Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington for his part in five thrilling Stanley Cup victories between 1984 and 1990. These fabulous and original rings were produced for Peter Pocklington by the famed craftsmen at Jostens and Balfour and each ring will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity and provenance signed by Peter Pocklington himself. Additionally, each will come with an authenticating document from Jostens executive Barry Properzi detailing that he has examined each ring and attesting that these are the actual rings that were originally ordered by and produced for Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington. Also accompanying the rings are copies of the original Jostens order forms from the 1980s confirming that Peter Pocklington had ordered Stanley Cup championship rings for himself and for his father Basil Pocklington.
