The most impressive and jaw-dropping piece in former Edmonton Oilers' owner Peter Pocklington's stunning Stanley Cup championship ring collection, this dazzler features a huge diamond encircled by just over 30 smaller ones and commemorates the Oilers' second Cup triumph in the spring of 1985. The defending Cup-champion Oilers posted a 49-win, 109-point regular season as Wayne Gretzky won his fifth consecutive scoring title while reaching the 200-point plateau for the third time and helping Jari Kurri to also reach the 70-goal mark. Edmonton scored 401 times altogether and come playoff time, roared to the Cup finals in just two games over the minimum. A three-game sweep of the Kings in the opening round was followed by a four-game sweep of the Jets and a 4-games-to-2 series win over the Black Hawks in the conference finals. The Oilers then disposed of the Flyers in five games, Paul Coffey scoring what proved to be the Cup-winner in Edmonton's clinching 8-3 victory in front of hometown fans. Hockey's most exciting team featured several record-breakers as Gretzky's 30 assists and 47 points were new marks for one playoff year, while Coffey shattered records for goals (12), assists (25) and points by a defenceman. Kurri's 19 goals and Grant Fuhr's 15 wins meanwhile, tied playoff records.
A sloping "Stanley Cup Champions" surrounds the breath-taking diamonds on the face of this shocking piece, while one side features "Pocklington" and "Owner", along with a raised image of the Oilers logo. The opposite side includes the team's name, two Stanley Cups with "84" and "85" inscribed, and a motivational carrot. Stamped on the interior of the band is "14K" and the size 10-1/2 ring is in excellent-plus condition, exhibiting only light wear.
Offered in this collection are the Stanley Cup Championship rings originally awarded to Edmonton Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington for his part in five thrilling Stanley Cup victories between 1984 and 1990. These fabulous and original rings were produced for Peter Pocklington by the famed craftsmen at Jostens and Balfour and each ring will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity and provenance signed by Peter Pocklington himself. Additionally, each will come with an authenticating document from Jostens executive Barry Properzi detailing that he has examined each ring and attesting that these are the actual rings that were originally ordered by and produced for Oilers team owner Peter Pocklington. Also accompanying the rings are copies of the original Jostens order forms from the 1980s confirming that Peter Pocklington had ordered Stanley Cup championship rings for himself and for his father Basil Pocklington.
