One of only three players to don the mighty maple leaf in both 1972 and 1974, Pat Stapleton served as team captain for the Canadians at the 1974 Summit Series which served as the sequel to the 1972 Canada-Russia Series and battled the Soviets in all 8 contests, scoring 3 points. Originally planned as a six-game tournament, the 1974 Summit Series featured stars from the WHA led by Bobby Hull. Originating from his personal collection, we have Pat Stapleton’s Team Canada captain’s jersey worn in the 1974 Canada-Russia Series. Early Maska labeling is affixed to the tie-neck collar, with a second label with “L 44 45” sizing placed adjacently (with “P.S.” handwritten). Styled with “Canada” spread across the chest in individual single white twill, with a maple leaf and “74” over the left breast. “12” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with “International” affixed in individual white twill letters to the upper reverse. We should also note that the captain’s “C” was hastily affixed. Sporting just a few marks from game-use including a large stick mark across the team crest, the sweater displays magnificently, and hails from one of the most famous international hockey tournaments in history. An LOA from the Stapleton family will accompany this iconic sweater.
