Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Issued in the daily Montreal newspaper La Patrie during the 1927-28 NHL season and featuring some of the greatest early Montreal Canadiens superstars, we have a complete set of 21 La Patrie photo premiums. Featuring sepia-tone photos on thin card stock and measuring approx 8 1/2" by 11", the desirable photos are mostly the work of famous Montreal photographer James Rice. Highlighted by legendary HOFers Georges Vezina, Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat, fellow inductees Lalonde, Laviolette, Pitre, Gardiner, Mantha, Hainsworth and owner Leo Dandurand are also included. The majority of the premiums display especially well for their age and size, with toning and light corner wear the main concerns within the collection.
The remaining players in the collection include Lepine, Leduc, Hart, Burke, Langlois, Gaudreault, Patterson, Gagne, Lafrance, Larochelle and manager Cecil Hart. As mentioned, the majority of the premiums remain in excellent condition, with lower technical grades, with the odd crease, wrinkle or indentation present. The Vezina exhibits a few small creases over both the upper right and lower left corners, while the Morenz sports a rough and discoloured edge along the upper left, with additional wear/toning over the bottom corners. Lastly, the Mantha shows a tiny bit of paper loss within the upper left corner along with a tiny hole nearby, with a small area of staining/discolouration along the lower right border of the Langlois photo.
