Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/16/2005
Immediately after Wayne Gretzky scored his 802nd career NHL goal to surpass childhood idol Gordie Howe and become the all-time NHL goal scoring king the game was halted and Gretzky's achievement was recognized with an on-ice ceremony in which he received a Rolls Royce from team owner Bruce McNall. In addition to that little gift the team then commissioned the creation of a banner that would mark the record and be hung in the fabulous Forum for all to see. We are proud to offer this very banner that hung in the Forum following Gretzky's record setting night. This massive single-sided tribute to the Great One measures 33"x90" and is made of a satin-like cloth material and features "Gretzky", "99" and the NHL logo shield in the same material all-sewn on with the words "All Time Goal Scorer, Wayne Gretzky, March 23, 1994" screened on in black. Overall, in excellent condition with some light discoloring and soiling in a few places. Obtained by a private collector directly from the LA Forum.
