Unbelievable fiberglass goalie mask worn by Hall of Fame netminder Grant Fuhr during his rookie season in 1981-82. Spruce Grove-born Grant Fuhr starred with the WHL's Victoria Cougars for two seasons before joining the Edmonton Oilers in 1981. Grant led the Oilers to five Stanley Cup Championships between 1984 and 1990. During the 1983-1984 season, Fuhr collected 14 points, which still stands as the single-season record for most points by a goaltender. Without a doubt, his best year was in 1987. Fuhr was a workhorse, accumulating a league-leading 4,304 minutes played and 40 wins. He earned his sole Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender and was runner-up to teammate Wayne Gretzky for the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player. We are proud to offer Grant's game worn rookie goalie mask, worn during the first of many celebrated NHL campaigns. This well-worn mask sports a striking white, orange and blue painted design with Oilers decals at each temple. The interior padding is intact and the original strapping and black Cooper back plate are there as well. A label on the inside reads "D. Eastcott" and lists the name and address of maker Gerry Schultz. The name of Gerry Schultz is well known among goalies from Western Canada. This former goalie turned mask maker fitted pros and amateurs in the Edmonton area throughout the Sixties and Seventies. His clients included WHA and NHL goalies such as Ken Brown, Chris Worthy, Jack Norris and most notably Grant Fuhr. Gerry's masks were extremely solid and he was the first maker to use Kevlar in his designs. Don Eastcott was a major junior and minor pro netminder throughout the Seventies and Grant's first mask was a leftover Eastcott model. The mask shows nice game use, inside and out and the paint job has been well preserved. This historic mask was originally obtained from former Oilers team photographer and noted collector Bob Mummery. Comes with a LOA.
