Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005

With Gretzky on the verge of tying Phil Esposito's single season record of 76 goals, the Oilers rolled into Detroit to play the Red Wings on February 21, 1982. With Esposito and a hoard of media in attendance Gretzky did not disappoint them or his fans and registered a five-point night including his record tying 76th goal coming at 16:34 of the third period. Although he did not break the record until the Oilers very next game in Buffalo this goal still stands as a very significant milestone in NHL and Wayne Gretzky history. This official NHL Inglasco Red Wings puck was plucked from the net that night and later mounted (with tape) onto a 7"x 9" wood display plaque that has a pre-drilled wall mount hole in the centre. A brass plate with laser engraved black text captures the details of this great moment. Please note that there is a slight error on the plaque as it states it was Wayne's 76th goal in 78 games when in fact that was the number of games it took Phil Esposito to set the record. Wayne tied the record with his 76th goal in his 63rd game. From the archives of the Edmonton Oilers with a team letter of provenance signed by General Manager Kevin Lowe.
