Edmonton Oilers Auction 2005
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/16/2005
On February 18th 1981 with a third period outburst like no other in his young NHL career, Gretzky was once again chalked one up for NHL record books. Wayne erased all doubt to the game's outcome by potting four goals in the third period leading the Oilers to a 9-2 home win. In doing so Wayne tied an NHL record for most goals in a single period which he shares to this day with ten other players including the likes of Busher Jackson, Bryan Trottier and Mario Lemieux. Offered from that night is the puck from Wayne's fifth and final goal of the game, fourth of the third period and his 7th point of the night. The assists are credited to Doug Hicks and Risto Siltanen. The official NHL Inglasco Oilers puck was plucked from the net that night and later mounted (with tape) onto a 7"x 9" wood display plaque that has a pre-drilled wall mount hole in the centre. A brass plate with laser engraved black text captures the details of this great moment in Gretzky and Oilers history. From the archives of the Edmonton Oilers with a team letter of provenance signed by General Manager Kevin Lowe.
